Data requirements for Horizon

What Horizon needs to create the right leaflet for you.

Updated over a month ago

Horizon uses automations and rules to combine different data and information into a branded, visually appealing digital leaflet.

Without the right data and information, there can be no digital leaflet.

To create a leaflet, Horizon needs…

  • Product data: Dynamic information about your products from a feed: Prices, product descriptions, images, etc.

  • Campaign data: Static information about which products to show, and how to show them: Products, chapters, priorities, etc.

In this article, we'll go through:

Product data

Horizon pulls dynamic product data directly from your product feed.

What is a product feed? A product feed is a digital file containing information about products (prices, images, description, IDs) and is used to distribute product data to various sales and advertising channels.

Supported feeds and formats

We support valid Google Merchant Feeds that:

iPaper support will connect your product feed to your account.

Continuous updating

Once your feed is connected with your account, all leaflets you create will be continuously updated at a customizable interval.

For example, if your prices change daily, the new prices will always be shown in your leaflet with the right updating interval. The same goes for in-stock and out-of-stock products.

Campaign data

Campaign data defines which products your leaflet should be based on.

It’s a static file (CSV or Excel) where you define which products to include in the leaflet and how they should be grouped, shown together and in relation to each other – and much more.

This means that, to create a new leaflet, you need to upload new campaign data.

Template for campaign data – Standard Briefing Data

As a resource, we have created a campaign data template for you to fill out:

You will notice a lot of columns in the Campaign Data Template, but fear not:

  • You don’t need to fill all columns to create a digital leaflet.

  • Some of the columns in the file can even be redundant if that information is in your product feed.

But, often, the more columns that are filled, the more sophisticated and automated your digital leaflet can be – and the less manual work you’ll have to do.

Campaign Data Template – Column explanations and outcomes

Required to fill out

product_id

product_id is a unique identifier – the same as is in your product feed – for your products.

This column decides which products will be added to your leaflet.

Recommended to fill out

offer_id

'offer_id' is an alphanumerical string that tells Horizon which products should appear together.

By inputting the same 'offer_id' for multiple products will make them appear as a composition in a single offer. Useful for bundles, sets, or related items.

The offer 'Vampire theme' is comprised of three products. They're grouped in a single offer because they share the same 'offer_id' in the Standard Briefing Data template.

priority

‘priority’ sets how important each product in the leaflet is. The more important, the more space it will be given in the leaflet, along with any other rules set for your most important offers.

In the priority column, you can only input A, B or C:

A = high importance (large)

B = medium

C = low (small)

A visual representation of assigning different priorities to offers.

Use the "A" priority sparingly for optimal effect (if everything is most important, nothing is)

chapter

‘chapter’ allows you to organize products into categories and sections with corresponding themes or categories (e.g. Halloween, Electronics, Coffee).

‘chapter’ can also be used for the table of contents in the leaflet.

Products (costumes, electronics and coffee machines) are separated into distinct sections using the 'chapter' column.

All other columns

See explanation of all columns in the Standard Briefing data here. If you're unsure which columns are relevant for your leaflet, reach out to us.
